چکیده

A symmetric shortest-path table routing is a set of paths between all pairs of nodes in a graph such that the set is closed under path reversal, each path is a shortest path in the graph, and all paths with the same destination form a tree with a sink at the destination. Such a routing can be found for any finite, connected, undirected, positiveweighted graph by “salting” the edge weights so that all the shortest salted paths are unique while each one remains a shortest path in the original graph. A conjecture arises about whether every possible symmetric shortestpath table routing can be selected in this way by some edge weight salting. It turns out that this conjecture is false. This paper describes the search for counterexamples.

Polynomial-Time Computable Backup Tables for Shortest-Path Routing

For networks employing shortest-path routing, we introduce a new recovery scheme which needs only one backup routing table. By precomputing this backup table, the network recovers from any single link-failure immediately after the failure occurs. It is shown that this scheme always works if the network is given as a two-edge-connected symmetric digraph and that an optimal backup table can be co...

Implementation and Performance Evaluation of a Multi-Path Incremental Shortest Path Algorithm in Quagga Routing Software

In this paper a multi-path incremental shortest path algorithm has been proposed allowing a quick reconfiguration of a routing table when a network topological change occurs. After evaluating the algorithm complexity, we have implemented it in Quagga, one of the most popular open source routing software. In order to evaluate the algorithm performance, we have realized a test-bed allowing the sh...

Topology-Centric Look-Up Service

Topological considerations are of paramount importance in the design of a P2P lookup service. We present TOPLUS, a lookup service for structured peer-to-peer networks that is based on the hierarchical grouping of peers according to network IP prefixes. TOPLUS is fully distributed and symmetric, in the sense that all nodes have the same role. Packets are routed to their destination along a path ...

Single backup table schemes for shortest-path routing

We introduce a new recovery scheme that needs only one extra backup routing table for networks employing shortest-path routing. By precomputing this backup table, the network recovers from any single link failure immediately after the failure occurs. To compute the backup routing table for this scheme, we use an almost linear time algorithm to solve the {r, v}-problem, which is a variation of t...

Performance of data networks with random links

We investigate simplified models of computer data networks and examine how the introduction of additional random links influences the performance of these networks. In general, the impact of additional random links on the performance of the network strongly depends on the routing algorithm used in the network. Significant performance gains can be achieved if the routing is based on “geometrical...
